Sugar Film

This is the headquarters of a Dallas film and video production company. The building’s owner and its architect, a devotee of the design principles of Frank Lloyd Wright, had a precise vision for the landscaping as an integral, organic aspect of the architecture.

Pautz Landscapes entered the picture while construction was underway. Working with the owner, contractor and city building ordinances, we created a landscape plan compatible with the building’s design and the code parameters.

The narrow, deep lot, the clean, contemporary architecture, and the requirement for low-maintenance plants guided our design and choices of plants and other elements. Designing to the lines and forms of the building, we installed bamboo and horsetail reeds in corten steel planters and Japanese yews and Japanese maples in beds of mondo grass. We set off the sculptural appearance of the plantings with beds of rounded black stones.
